Does Brain Balance actually work?
Research and participant outcomes suggest that many children experience meaningful improvements after completing the Brain Balance program, although individual results vary. Since 2020, Brain Balance has published eight peer-reviewed studies across seven academic journals examining outcomes related to attention, cognitive performance, behavior, emotional functioning, developmental skills, and ADHD symptoms. These studies include data from more than 47,000 participants and have involved collaborations with researchers from institutions including Harvard Medical School's McLean Hospital, Cambridge Brain Sciences (now Creyos Health), Dominican University of California, the University of Iowa, and Friends University. Published findings have reported improvements in areas such as: Attention and focus, ADHD symptoms, Cognitive performance including memory, reasoning, and concentration, Emotional regulation and anxiety-related symptoms, Sensorimotor skills and developmental functioning, Classroom attention and behavior. For example, a study conducted at Harvard Medical School's McLean Hospital found that children with ADHD who completed a 15-week Brain Balance program demonstrated symptom reductions comparable to those reported for low-dose stimulant medication, with improvements maintained at a seven-month follow-up. Other published studies have reported significant improvements in cognitive performance, developmental outcomes, emotional functioning, and teacher-rated classroom behavior. In addition to published research, parent-reported outcomes from more than 2,500 families between 2022 and 2025 found that 89% of children improved in at least one area of concern, 86% improved across the majority of areas measured, and 84% of parents reported lasting improvements up to 18 months after completing the program. We begin with a comprehensive assessment to better understand each participant's unique brain profile and create a personalized program designed to support long-term progress. Families from St. Johns County, Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, and St. Augustine often seek out Brain Balance when they are looking for a drug-free, brain-based approach to support children, teens, or adults facing learning, attention, or behavioral challenges.

"When we started, my child wasn't interested in speaking much, but we're now seeing encouraging improvements in verbal communication. It's been a big step forward for us as parents." "It changed my son for the better. Brain Balance gave him the tools he needed to be successful in school and social situations." "By the end of the program, we saw noticeable improvements in our son's communication, focus, listening skills, and overall regulation." "Our kids improved emotionally, behaviorally, and academically. The changes we've experienced have created a happier, more peaceful family environment." While every child's experience is unique, many Jacksonville families report meaningful improvements in attention, learning, emotional regulation, confidence, and daily functioning after completing the Brain Balance program.
Why do I see mixed reviews about Brain Balance online?
When researching any program that supports focus, attention, behavior, anxiety, or learning challenges, it's normal to find a variety of opinions and experiences online. Every child has a unique brain profile, different strengths and challenges, and different levels of support at home, which means outcomes can vary from person to person. At Brain Balance Jacksonville, the overwhelming majority of online feedback from local families is positive. The center currently maintains a 4.8-star Google rating, 5-star Facebook rating, and 5-star Yelp rating, with more than 120 positive reviews and recommendations across platforms. Many Jacksonville parents report improvements in areas such as focus, communication, emotional regulation, confidence, behavior, and academic performance. Parents have shared stories of children becoming more successful in school, improving reading comprehension and attention, developing stronger communication skills, and gaining confidence in social situations. These experiences are consistent with broader outcomes reported by families across the Brain Balance network. In a parent outcomes survey of more than 2,500 families between 2022 and 2025, 89% of children improved in at least one area of concern, 86% improved across the majority of areas measured, and 84% of parents reported lasting improvements up to 18 months after completing the program. That said, no program works for everyone. Individual results can vary based on factors such as the severity and complexity of challenges, consistency with program participation, readiness for the program, and engagement with activities both in-center and at home. Brain Balance is an active program that requires commitment from both parents and participants. Success depends on regular attendance, completion of recommended home activities, and a child's ability to meet program expectations and participate consistently throughout the process. Because every child is different, the best way to determine whether Brain Balance may be a good fit is through a comprehensive assessment. This allows our team to better understand a child's unique strengths and challenges and helps families make an informed decision about whether the program is right for them.
Is Brain Balance legitimate?
Yes. Brain Balance is an established program that has helped families nationwide for more than 15 years and has been serving families throughout the Jacksonville area since 2014. Brain Balance Jacksonville works with children, teens, and young adults who struggle with challenges related to attention, focus, behavior, anxiety, emotional regulation, learning, executive functioning, and social development. The program takes a non-medical, drug-free approach designed to strengthen brain connectivity through personalized sensory, motor, and cognitive activities. In addition to helping tens of thousands of families across the country, Brain Balance is supported by a growing body of published research. Since 2020, eight peer-reviewed studies across seven academic journals have examined outcomes related to attention, ADHD symptoms, cognitive performance, emotional functioning, developmental skills, and classroom behavior. Some notable research findings include: A study conducted at Harvard Medical School's McLean Hospital found that children with ADHD who completed the program showed symptom reductions comparable to those reported for low-dose stimulant medication, with improvements maintained at follow-up. Published research has reported significant improvements in cognitive skills including memory, reasoning, concentration, and attention. Teacher-rated studies have found improvements in classroom attention and behavior. Research examining anxiety and emotional functioning found that many participants experienced meaningful improvements in emotional regulation and related symptoms. Family outcomes have shown similar results. In a survey of more than 2,500 families, 89% reported improvement in at least one area of concern, 86% reported improvement across the majority of concerns measured, and 84% reported lasting improvements up to 18 months after completing the program. Locally, Brain Balance Jacksonville has earned strong reviews from families throughout Northeast Florida, including Jacksonville, St. Johns County, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, Julington Creek, Mandarin, Fleming Island, Orange Park, and surrounding communities. Parents frequently report improvements in focus, confidence, communication, emotional regulation, and academic performance. As with any educational, developmental, or therapeutic-style program, individual results vary, and no program works for every child. The best way to determine whether Brain Balance may be a good fit is through a comprehensive assessment that evaluates how different areas of brain function are working together and identifies opportunities for growth and support. If you're considering Brain Balance for your child, we encourage you to review the published research, read local family reviews, and speak with our Jacksonville team to learn whether the program may be appropriate for your family's goals.
Is it too late to start Brain Balance if my child is older?
No. Brain Balance programs can support children, teens, and adults at many different stages of development. The brain has the ability to change and strengthen connections throughout life through a process called neuroplasticity. Many families come to Brain Balance Jacksonville when their child is older and they are still struggling with challenges related to focus, attention, learning, anxiety, or confidence. Our program focuses on strengthening the brain skills that support these areas so participants can continue developing important abilities over time. Every participant begins with a comprehensive assessment so our team can better understand their brain profile and create a personalized program designed to support progress at any age. Brain Balance Jacksonville works with children, teens, and adults and offers in-center, virtual, or hybrid program options for families throughout St. Johns County and the greater Jacksonville area.
Who works with participants at Brain Balance Jacksonville? What are their credentials?
Brain Balance Jacksonville is supported by a trained team of coaches and staff who work closely with participants during their sessions. Our team members receive specialized training in the Brain Balance program and follow structured protocols designed to support brain development, focus, learning, and emotional regulation. Many of our staff members hold college degrees or are currently in graduate programs studying fields such as kinesiology, psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychiatry, and mental health related disciplines. Their educational backgrounds help them bring knowledge of brain development, movement, and behavior into the work they do with families. Sessions are guided by certified Brain Balance Coaches with additional certifications in Cognition and Behavior Management who lead cognitive training, sensory motor activities, and physical exercises that are part of each participant's personalized program. Our team works closely with families throughout the program to monitor progress and provide support along the way. Families often appreciate the encouraging, structured environment our team creates to help children, teens, and adults build confidence and strengthen important brain skills.
Can Brain Balance work alongside other supports or therapies?
Yes. In fact, many families use Brain Balance as part of a broader support plan that may include tutoring, counseling, occupational therapy, speech therapy, educational accommodations, behavioral supports, or medical care. Brain Balance is designed to complement these services by focusing on the underlying brain functions that support attention, learning, behavior, emotional regulation, and executive functioning. Rather than teaching a specific academic subject or coping strategy, the program works to strengthen how the brain processes information, regulates emotions, coordinates movement, and responds to the world around it. Think of it this way: tutoring helps teach the material, therapy helps develop skills and strategies, and educational supports help create accommodations. Brain Balance focuses on strengthening the brain systems that make it easier to benefit from all of those supports in the first place. Brain Balance is not intended to replace appropriate medical care, therapy, or educational services. Instead, it can serve as a valuable addition to a family's overall toolkit by helping build the foundational brain connections that support growth, learning, regulation, and success across settings.
Where is Brain Balance Jacksonville located?
Brain Balance Jacksonville is located in St. Johns, Florida, just off I-95 and County Road 210. Our center is in the same plaza as Grumpy's Restaurant, making it easy for families traveling from surrounding areas. We serve families throughout St. Johns County and the greater Jacksonville area, including Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, St. Augustine, Jacksonville Beach, and nearby Northeast Florida communities. In addition to in-center programs, we also offer virtual sessions and hybrid options that combine in-person and virtual training for families who need more flexibility. Our center provides brain-based programs designed to help children, teens, and adults who struggle with focus, attention, behavior, anxiety, and learning challenges.
How quickly do families see results with Brain Balance?
Every child is different, but many families begin noticing positive changes within the first few weeks of the program. Early improvements often include better focus, increased confidence, improved emotional regulation, stronger listening skills, and greater success with daily routines at home and school. Research suggests that measurable cognitive changes may begin sooner than many families expect. In a peer-reviewed study conducted in collaboration with Cambridge Brain Sciences (now Creyos Health), children who participated in Brain Balance for an average of just 27 days demonstrated measurable improvements in areas such as attention, concentration, and executive functioning. As participants completed the 3-month program, researchers observed significant improvements in cognitive skills including memory, reasoning, verbal ability, concentration, working memory, planning, processing speed, and executive function. Importantly, participants were never trained on the cognitive tests themselves. This means the improvements reflected gains in underlying cognitive abilities rather than simply becoming better at a specific task. At Brain Balance Jacksonville, families from Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, St. Johns County, St. Augustine, Julington Creek, Fleming Island, Orange Park, and surrounding Northeast Florida communities frequently tell us they begin noticing encouraging changes during the first several weeks of participation. Over time, those early improvements may develop into broader gains in attention, behavior, emotional regulation, learning, confidence, social skills, and academic performance.
Do you need a diagnosis like ADHD to start Brain Balance?
No. You do not need a medical diagnosis such as ADHD, dyslexia, or another learning difference to begin the Brain Balance process. Many families come to Brain Balance Jacksonville because they notice challenges with focus, attention, behavior, anxiety, or learning but may not have a formal diagnosis. The first step is a comprehensive assessment that evaluates brain function related to attention, memory, sensory processing, motor skills, and learning. This helps our team identify strengths and areas that may need support so we can create a personalized brain-based program. Families from St. Johns County, Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, and St. Augustine often come to Brain Balance when they are looking for a drug-free approach to help children, teens, or adults strengthen the brain skills needed for success at school, home, and everyday life.
Is Brain Balance evidence-based?
Yes. Brain Balance programs are built on research in neuroscience related to brain connectivity, neuroplasticity, and child development. The program was founded by neuroscientist Dr. Robert Melillo, author of Disconnected Kids, who has spent decades studying brain development and functional disconnection in children. For more than 20 years, Brain Balance has focused on strengthening the brain networks involved in focus, attention, behavior, emotional regulation, and learning. The program combines cognitive training, sensory motor activities, physical exercise, and nutrition guidance designed to support improved brain function. Research connected to the program has included work with McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, and broader neuroscience research from leading institutions continues to support the understanding that the brain can change and strengthen through targeted training and experience. At Brain Balance Jacksonville, every participant begins with a comprehensive assessment so our team can better understand their brain profile and create a personalized program designed to support long-term progress.
How much does Brain Balance cost?
The cost of Brain Balance programs varies depending on each individual's needs and the length of the personalized program recommended after the assessment. Because every brain profile is different, we begin with a comprehensive assessment to identify areas related to focus, attention, learning, behavior, and emotional regulation. During the consultation, our team walks families through program recommendations, pricing, and flexible payment options. While Brain Balance programs are not typically covered by insurance, many families use HSA or FSA funds when eligible, and we do our best to help families find a plan that works for their budget. Brain Balance Jacksonville is also an approved Step Up For Students provider, and many families in St. Johns County, Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, and St. Augustine use scholarship funds toward our programs.
Can Step Up scholarships be used for Brain Balance?
Yes. Many Florida families use their Step Up For Students scholarships to participate in Brain Balance programs. Brain Balance Jacksonville is an approved provider, and scholarship funds may be used to support programs designed to help with focus, attention, learning, behavior, and emotional regulation. Families from St. Johns County, Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, and St. Augustine often use Step Up scholarships as part of their child's educational support plan. Our team is happy to help guide families through how scholarship funds can be applied toward Brain Balance programs.
Does Brain Balance Jacksonville accept Step Up scholarships?
Yes. Brain Balance Jacksonville is an approved provider for the Step Up For Students scholarship program in Florida. Many families use their scholarship funds to participate in our brain-based programs designed to support challenges with focus, attention, learning, behavior, and emotional regulation. If you are a Step Up family in St. Johns County, Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, or St. Augustine, our team can help guide you through how scholarship funds may be used toward our programs.
What is Brain Balance and how does it work?
Brain Balance is a personalized, non-medical program designed to help children, teens, and adults improve focus, behavior, emotional regulation, and learning. At Brain Balance Jacksonville, we start with a comprehensive assessment that looks at cognitive skills, sensory motor development, and how different areas of the brain are communicating. When certain brain networks are underdeveloped, it can affect attention, executive function, learning, and behavior. Our program uses targeted sensory motor and cognitive activities to strengthen those connections and support better brain function. The goal is to address root causes so students can improve focus, confidence, and overall performance at school and at home.
Does Brain Balance help with anxiety in kids or teens?
Many families come to Brain Balance Jacksonville seeking support for children, teens, or adults who struggle with anxiety, stress, emotional regulation, or low confidence. Our program focuses on strengthening brain connectivity through targeted cognitive and sensory motor activities that support better regulation and resilience. By improving the brain skills involved in focus, processing, and emotional control, many participants experience improvements in confidence, self-regulation, and their ability to manage everyday challenges at home, school, or work.
How is Brain Balance different from therapy or medication?
Brain Balance takes a drug-free, whole-brain approach that focuses on strengthening brain function rather than treating symptoms alone. Our program combines cognitive training, sensory motor activities, and nutrition guidance to support brain development and improve areas such as focus, attention, behavior, emotional regulation, and learning. Many families come to Brain Balance when they are looking for a non-medical, holistic approach to help their child or teen build stronger brain skills. Our program is designed to support the brain systems that influence how a child learns, behaves, and functions at home, in school, and in everyday life.
What age groups does Brain Balance Jacksonville work with?
Brain Balance Jacksonville works with children, teens, and adults. Many families come to our center in St. Johns when traditional approaches have not fully helped with challenges related to focus, attention, behavior, anxiety, or learning. Our programs are designed to strengthen brain connectivity and support improvements in areas such as attention, emotional regulation, confidence, and academic performance. Families from Jacksonville, St. Johns County, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, and St. Augustine often seek out Brain Balance when they are looking for a drug-free, brain-based approach to help their child or teen thrive.
Does Brain Balance diagnose ADHD or learning disabilities?
No. Brain Balance does not provide medical diagnoses for ADHD, learning disabilities, or other conditions. Instead, we conduct a comprehensive assessment that looks at brain function related to focus, attention, behavior, sensory processing, memory, and learning skills. This assessment helps identify areas of brain imbalance that may be affecting how a child learns, behaves, and processes information. Based on the results, we create a personalized program designed to strengthen brain connectivity and support improvements in focus, behavior, and learning.
Is Brain Balance a tutoring program?
No. Brain Balance is not a tutoring program. Instead of focusing on academic subjects like reading, writing, or math, our program focuses on strengthening the brain skills that support learning, attention, behavior, and emotional regulation. These foundational skills play an important role in how easily a child is able to learn and succeed in school. Many families choose to combine Brain Balance with tutoring because the two can work very well together. Tutors focus on academic instruction and school subjects, while Brain Balance focuses on improving the underlying brain skills that support focus, processing, memory, and learning. We love working alongside tutors and other educational supports to help students get the most out of their academic efforts.
Does Brain Balance help with ADHD?
Yes. Many families come to Brain Balance Jacksonville for help with ADHD-related challenges such as focus, impulsivity, organization, and emotional regulation. Our program focuses on strengthening brain connections through targeted cognitive, sensory, and physical activities rather than medication.

We have helped more than 50,000 individuals get to the root of their struggles and achieve lasting improvements, including:
Our Whole Brain Approach
Did you know the brain can change at any age? Change in the brain can refer to new pathways being formed or connections becoming stronger and more efficient. New pathways are formed through sensory stimulation, life experiences and new information. These connections and pathways are important because they communicate with all regions of the brain, allowing us to successfully perform daily cognitive and physical tasks, and facilitating our executive functioning.
When individuals struggle with focus, behavior, or sensory processing, it can be linked to weak connections across different regions in the brain. But the good news is, we know that the brain can change.
The Brain Balance program is designed to strengthen and build brain connectivity with a unique combination of physical, sensory, and cognitive activities. These new, efficient, and effective connections in the brain help improve in the following areas:
- Cognitive Tasks
- Executive Functioning
- Focus
- Memory
- Learning
- Comprehension
- Reasoning
- Behaviors & EmotionsOrganization
- Self-motivation
- Problem Solving
By building stronger brain connections, you can help yourself or your child get to the root of their challenges and build a stronger foundation for success.
A Personalized Program to Meet Your Needs
At Brain Balance, we believe it is critical to identify the root cause of challenges to create an action plan for change. Our program begins with a 1-to-2-hour in-depth, comprehensive assessment. We use what we learn in the comprehensive assessment to set up your individualized program. By doing this for each unique person, individually, we create a customized program that addresses any deficits in functions or skills you may have.
The frequency and duration of these tasks, activities, and exercises are tailored based on the individual’s needs.
What to Expect During the Assessment
The assessment includes sensory, physical, and cognitive activities that identify areas of development that need strengthening. These critical areas of development are at the root of our ability to pay attention, learn, engage, interact, and manage stress, behavior, and anxiety.
From the results of the assessment, our team will help create a plan focused on building the brain connections needed to help create improvements for the individual.
1:1 Coaching and Support
Dedicated coaches and directors are your personal guides through the program, including evaluating progress and leveling up as individual advances. They will also support through behavioral coaching, nutritional support, lifestyle changes as well as advocacy for educational meetings.

Brain Balance does not require that a child has a medical diagnosis, nor do we clinically diagnose medical conditions. Our focus is on understanding the struggles these children experience and helping them develop and strengthen the connections to help reduce those struggles.
For those who do have a diagnosis,1 research has shown that the unique challenges your child is facing can be linked to weak connections across different regions of the brain.
At Brain Balance Center Jacksonville, FL we understand the pain and frustration of watching your child struggle with learning or behavioral issues. Here, and at our centers around the country, we have helped thousands of kids overcome their challenges. Our groundbreaking program provides lasting results because we don’t simply work with a child’s strengths or compensate for a weakness, we tackle the root cause of the issue.
Our unique Brain Balance Program® addresses the whole child by integrating sensory motor training and stimulation and academic activities with nutritional and dietary guidelines. This unique integrated approach is key to what makes Brain Balance different and so effective.

Get a deeper view into why your child struggles
The Brain Balance assessment provides you with a deeper view of your child’s struggles. During the assessment, your child’s sensory, motor and cognitive development are evaluated. This assessment helps identify areas of development that need strengthening. The reasons why a child may excel in some areas but has trouble in others will become clearer.
